I stopped off to check out a local produce market on my walk.
I bought a simple green juice, because I like those and I was thirsty. Well. I got into line behind an older woman. She seemed...distracted. She was looking around...and when it was her turn, she talked a lot. Talking about her bag she had left there, had the apples already been rung up.... Then she started writing a personal check, which they don't accept at that store. She said, "I think I usually write you guys a check.". However, they don't accept checks.
So she started rifling around in her petite papiers, papers papers papers.....the cashier said she was going to put the transaction on hold. It didn't work. A guy offered to give her cash, "You can mail it back to me later....". A few minutes later, I just added mine to hers & paid for it. She did not say thank you, she said "Wait.". No. I need to go.
Good lord! I didn't stop at Marin Sun Farms as I was planning to do; I just walked away. Anya Sophe Behn, Open Curves
